I no longer have the irresistible urge to rush home. Don’t get me wrong. I am looking forward to it. I want to enjoy every last minute I have here.
I met Jim a couple days ago. Our paths intersected while I was taking a lunch break by a river. I made room for him on my little rock so he could sit & refill his water. Quiet & introspective, I wasn’t quite sure what to make of him at first.
I’ve grown to enjoy the times we stop & talk. He has been in the same camp as me the past 2 nights & I suspect he will pop up regularly over the next couple days. He was stopped on the trail this morning. What he had to say really hit home & is truly the heart of what KLA Outdoor Adventures is about.
“Sometimes I like to just stop at a beautiful spot & listen. It is so peaceful. You can even hear the leaves fall if you listen closely enough.” He then went on to identify each of the sounds we heard & what animal was making the various noises. I was amazed. In his quietness, he had taken the time to not only really listen, but to understand & truly appreciate the natural world around him. His deep love for the outdoors is contagious.
We met up with my friend Sue & her dog Penny at the Rossini Road Trailhead just a few miles from last night’s campsite. Sue had wanted to do the entire trail with me but her schedule only allowed her to join me for the last few days.
We are now a foursome on a journey together & having an absolute blast. I can’t think of a better way to spend my final days than in their company. Because when you think about it, most things are that much better when they are shared.
