After a fitful nights rest, I wake to a brisk morning. I hustle getting my things packed back up in a feeble attempt to stay warm. I barely pause to take in the views of Bear & Bean Lakes. I am a woman on a mission today hoping to reach my designated campsite this evening. I am learning, terrain plays just as much if not more of an important factor in how far one can travel in a day.
I called Dan once I got warmed up. I wanted to talk to him while I still had cell phone service. Like drinkable water, coverage in this area is surprisingly sporadic. He confirmed according to the SHT website I was on the hardest stretch of the trail. No kidding!
An hour later I have warmed up enough to strip off my rain gear. I decide to sit down for a few minutes. I don’t think on this entire trip aside from rest days I have taken the time to just sit & be. It’s heavenly. I soak up all the sun I can loving every delicious skin-warming moment.
